“Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had directed them. And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:16-20
This portion of Scripture is the Great Commission of Jesus Christ to His people, the Church. A commission is defined as a duty or instruction given to a people. The Great Commission is not to be understood as merely a suggestion or a command for a select group of specifically, specially-gifted believers. The Great Commission is both collective and individualized. The Cross Conference was organized to make known the need for obedience to this call toward the end of glorifying Christ and building His Kingdom while bringing the joy of the Gospel to all nations. As college-aged disciples of Christ, we must know and understand the Great Commission to discern the will of God for our time now as well as for the rest of our lives. For the Christian, the Cross Conference is about joyful submission to the Christ of all authority through our open-handed willingness to serve the cause of Christ in any role to which He calls us.
Not only is the Cross Conference an event to promote the willful submission of our lives to the Great Commission, but it is an event geared towards benefiting your ministry to the students on your campus by bringing them along. At first glance the topic of missions may only seem relevant to believers; what can someone who does not yet know Christ learn from a missions conference? To be a minister of the Gospel means to verbally articulate the Gospel, as well as making the Gospel intelligible by the way we live our lives. Missions is the mode by which we spread this Gospel, and by doing so reflect the Gospel’s inherent worldwide scale. The Gospel is the story of a global God in relentless pursuit of His corrupted Bride by their redemption through the blood of His Son, Jesus. This story is made apparent by the Church joyfully submitting to the call to the nations. The Cross Conference will be four days filled with Gospel-saturated seminars, worship, and intentional conversations, providing your ministry with a unique environment for growth. I encourage you to take advantage of the Cross Conference for your good, the good of your ministry, and the good of the nations! I hope to see you there!
“Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah” Psalm 67:4
